KC Nonprofits Impact Our City in a Big Way
Supporting the organizations who support our neighbors is an easy choice. Blue KC is proud to work with many organizations who are truly changing the lives of people and the landscape of our hometown. Nonprofit organizations help those in our community who may often or otherwise fall through the cracks. They teach people to read, provide access to quality and affordable healthcare and feed our community. What often goes overlooked is the incredible significance nonprofits have on our city as a whole. With over 12,000 registered nonprofits in the Kansas City area, the impact is widely felt. Nonprofit organizations make up 11.3 percent of Kansas City’s total workforce and nearly $5 billion in salaries and benefits.1 The impact of nonprofit organizations in our city is significant. From small, volunteer-led groups, to national and international organizations headquartered right here in Kansas City, we are stronger, healthier and a more vibrant city because of our nonprofit partners.

Blue KC Cares Campaign
Each fall our employees have the opportunity to give generously to the community organizations they care about the most. This year, through an investment in a new giving platform, our employees were able to select the organizations near and dear to them with 100% of their donations going directly to those groups. An investment in the United Way of Greater Kansas City, our own employee funded Caring Program for Children and the Blue KC Well Stocked initiative were among just a few of the 130 total charities included. In addition, employees participated in fundraising events like coffee cart sales and the ever popular dodgeball tournament to raise money and come together in support of our community!
Totals indicate number of charities supported within each classification.

Holiday Campaign
In November, Blue KC employees voted to select our annual Holiday Campaign recipient. Beginning on Giving Tuesday, employees were asked to bring needed items for a specific charity. Past recipients include Giving the Basics, Operation Breakthrough and KVC Health Systems. This year our employees selected Rose Brooks Center. The mission of Rose Brooks is to break the cycle of domestic violence so that individuals and families can live free of abuse. Employees provided thousands of dollars’ worth of coats, hats, toys, blankets and needed items for the families who Rose Brooks serves.
Blood Drives
Four times a year the Community Blood Center comes to Blue KC to collect lifesaving blood donations. Last year our employees donated 151 units of blood, which could save 453 lives!
The college students of Deeplens took first place and the college students of Blue Bionic Bowel took second place in the Blue KC Healthcare Innovation Prize.
