2019 ANNUAL REPORT

TOGETHER, WE CAN TURN HUNGRY INTO HEALTHY

In its second year, Blue KC’s Well Stocked program partnered with Cultivate KC, a local nonprofit that provides resources and advocates in support of growing fresh, nutritious produce in urban areas. Together, we offered reduced-cost or free transportation to local farmers markets twice last summer. The first event was in June and the second was in August to celebrate National Farmers Market Week.

For travel to any of the eligible markets, Blue KC offered discounted Lyft rides, free use of the Blue KC parking lot, and free use of RideKC Bike, Kansas City’s bike share system. We also distributed vouchers that could be redeemed for $5 tokens to use at the markets and over 260 were used.

Participating farmers markets included City Market, KCK Farmers Market, Independence Uptown Market, Ivanhoe Farmers Market and Overland Park Farmers Market.

In September, as part of Hunger Action Month, Blue KC hosted a pop-up farmers market at Washington Square Park where shoppers learned about Blue KC’s Well Stocked program and its partner organizations.

Well Stocked is dedicated to increasing access to nutritious food in underserved areas of our city.
