Kansas City, MO. (April 26, 2017) — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) is sponsoring the 11th annual National Walk@Lunch Day on Wednesday, April 26 and encouraging Kansas Citians to join tens of thousands of walkers nationwide.
Making a commitment to incorporate a daily walk into your routine can greatly improve your overall heart health. National Walk@Lunch Day started more than a decade ago as a way to encourage people of all ages and lifestyles to walk and form healthy habits for a lifetime.
Blue KC recognizes the significance walking has on an individual’s health. When done briskly on a regular basis, walking can help:
- Decrease the risk of heart attack and type-2 diabetes
- Control weight
- Improve muscle tone
- Reduce stress
Approximately 40 Kansas City companies will participate in this year's National Walk@Lunch Day, encouraging employees to take a walk over their lunch break and take steps toward a healthier lifestyle.
Walking is the most popular form of physical aerobic activity in the U.S. according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It's a low-impact activity that's inexpensive, accessible and beneficial.
"Walking is an effective way for everyone to get active and stay active. Health and wellness is part of our mission and we're committed to making Kansas City a more vibrant, healthy community. That starts with putting one foot in front of the other," said Dr. Gregg Laiben, Vice President, Health Innovations for Blue KC.
Living healthy can start with just one short walk. So take a walk with friends, family, or coworkers on April 26, 2017 and step out for heart health.
