KANSAS CITY, MO. (December 19, 2019)Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) is proud to recognize Kansas City high school senior Julia Flores as the recipient of the inaugural Blue KC Scholarship in honor of Danette K. Wilson. Established in honor of Blue KC's first woman President and Chief Executive Officer, the scholarship fulfills Wilson’s vision for supporting women in becoming transformative leaders in the healthcare and business fields
Wilson is a devoted alumna of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and upon her retirement in May 2019, Blue KC proudly established the scholarship in her name to support the next generation of women leaders at the university.
“It’s an honor to see Blue KC continue to support and empower the young women in our community,” Wilson said. “Investing in communities is about investing in people, so it’s incredibly important to us to help fund future leaders gaining the education skills to make a difference in our community.”
The scholarship will award $10,000 annually for five years to a student pursuing a degree in the healthcare or business fields.
Flores is an ambitious, entrepreneurial honors student at St. Teresa’s Academy and plans to attend University of Nebraska-Lincoln to study business with a focus on marketing and business management and administration.
“I am so thankful to have received this scholarship from Blue KC in honor of Danette Wilson,” Flores said. “As a young woman whose career is just getting started, I hope to make a significant impact on my community in honor of her vision and help empower the women business leaders alongside me.”
Blue KC will award the scholarship to the well-deserving Flores on January 10, 2020 during a special ceremony.
