Student from Lee’s Summit North High School featured in the month of March
At a young age, Brady Krysiewicz (Chris-a-witz), knew he had the ability to make a difference in the world and impact those around him. A passionate, determined, and energetic young man, Krysiewicz began his soccer journey when he was just three-years-old. He quickly fell in love with the sport – and the goalkeeper position – by the time he was six. While Krysiewicz’s story begins in Madison Heights, Virginia, it quickly expanded as his skill and talent level increased.
“While living in Virginia, I would travel three hours round-trip five days a week to participate in a highly competitive club,” said Krysiewicz. “At nine, I was invited by the Sporting Kansas City Academy to try out, and for a year-and-a-half, I flew back-and-forth between Virginia and Kansas City to train. I ultimately committed to moving to Kansas City in 2022 to train full-time with the academy, and I have been with them ever since.”
Throughout that process, Krysiewicz was continuing to grow the non-profit organization he founded, ‘Keeper for a Cure’. While attending a goalkeeper camp, he learned about the value and privilege of attending such camps, and the importance of using his unique skill set to benefit the community.
“Through this initiative, I have used my skills as a goalkeeper to raise funds for various cancer nonprofits, not only in Virginia, but also now in the Kansas City area,” said Krysiewicz. “I have raised nearly $20,000 (since its inception in 2019) with the help of many wonderful supporters. I never imaged creating this organization would allow me to assist so many people and causes.”
Krysiewicz believes it’s essential to spread kindness and optimism. Over the years, he’s adopted a saying that resonates deeply with him: We rise by lifting others. Krysiewicz understands that being kind and supportive to those around him can significantly impact their lives, since no one knows that struggles and internal battles someone may be facing.
“Simple acts of kindness, like a smile, can uplift someone’s spirits and contribute to making the world a better place,” said Krysiewicz.
“To generate a successful non-profit before even reaching high school is nothing short of amazing and astonishing,” said Christina Lively, Blue KC Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. “Brady’s ability to prioritize the values of helping others and giving back to those who need immediate assistance indicates a strong upbringing and support system. We’re honored to highlight Brady and ‘Keeper for a Cure’ and look forward to following its continued rise in the years to come.”
For Krysiewicz, now a freshman at Lee’s Summit North High School in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, his organization continues to support individuals battling cancer, while he also continues his soccer journey in hopes of one day playing goalkeeper for Sporting KC. His passion for both ‘Keeper for a Cure’ and soccer is a true testament to his character, time management skills, and determination for greatness.
“I feel incredibly honored to receive this recognition,” said Krysiewicz. “I want everyone to know that this is just the beginning for ‘Keeper for a Cure’ and as I continue to grow and push myself, my ultimate goal is to expand the organization to assist as many people as possible, but I also aspire to achieve my goal of helping to bring an MLS Cup back to Kansas City, where it rightfully belongs.”
