What We're Doing For Health Equity
Supportive Pregnancy Care (SPC) Groups
Blue KC and March of Dimes implemented SPC groups in select local health systems to enable providers to successfully implement group prenatal care to help achieve equity in birth outcomes. Learn more here.
Implicit bias trainings for healthcare workers
In early 2024, Blue KC hosted two accredited Implicit Bias Training sessions for more than 100 healthcare professionals at Union Station in Kansas City, MO. Titled “Unlocking Implicit Bias: How Our Hidden Attitudes Impact Patient Care”, Dr. Jabraan Pasha, MD, explored implicit bias in a straightforward, compassionate and engaging discussion. The training addressed unconscious biases and promoted diversity and inclusion in various settings.
Community Baby Showers in partnership with the Black Health Care Coalition

Community wellness is more than physical health
Your Healthiest Life: A Blue KC Health Education Series is an insightful resource available to the public. It offers a practical look at everyday behavioral health challenges and how to address them. It also shares tips for supporting family members, friends, and coworkers and when to seek professional help.
Blue KC and the Blue to You van travel around the Kansas City area to provide health education outreach, health promotion, and resources to increase access to healthcare and improve health behaviors. With initiatives like basic health screenings and medical supply distribution, Blue KC helps with population health management and health equity in our community.

The Fine Print
Our policy is to make one contribution per year to an organization. Blue KC does not commit to multi–year funding for any organization or event. If you have multiple requests for the year, please make every effort to combine those into one funding request.

Our Blue KC Kansas City Royals partnership addresses the stigma of mental health
Blue KC community partnerships in Kansas City include Shut Out the Stigma, a program in collaboration with the Kansas City Royals that aims to destigmatize behavioral health challenges. Shout Out the Stigma helps parents, coaches, and teachers understand the important role they play in the lives of today’s youth and gives them tools to improve kids’ behavioral health. Team up for this important cause and join us in breaking down barriers to seeking help.

Blue KC and the Kansas City Current tackle behavioral health issues
Blue KC believe that mental health is a key component to overall health. That’s why we partnered with the Kansas City Current to found Sideline the Stigma, a program committed to combating the stigma surrounding mental health. By hosting mental health support services in Kansas City, we strive to promote a more compassionate and inclusive community for those facing behavioral health challenges.

In partnership with the 'C' You In The Major Leagues Foundation and the Kansas City Royals, Blue KC Coaches With Character recognizes local amateur coaches who embody leadership and community service. Through nominations submitted by fans, we honor the coaches who make a positive impact on and off the field, making Kansas city a better place to live, work, and play. If you know a coach who is making a difference in the lives of their players and community, we invite you to nominate them to receive the recognition they deserve.
Celebrate the teachers and students who make a difference in your life
Each season we team up with Sporting Kansas City to celebrate outstanding students and te achers who make Kansas City a better place to live, work, and play. Nominated by fans and recognized during home matches at Children’s Mercy Park, honorees enjoy VIP experiences and special perks, highlighting their invaluable contributions to our community.
First responders are the first people we’d like to thank
When faced with danger, first responders always answer the call, protecting our community while saving countless lives in the process. Blue KC and the Kansas City Royals salute these brave individuals who put themselves on the line each day. Answering the Call honorees are selected from first responders who make a difference in the community. Throughout 2023, six courageous first responders were honored for Answering the Call.

Launched during the 2024 season, Blue KC and the Kansas City Current have teamed up to create the Blue KC Gamechanger. A Blue KC Gamechanger inspires bold ambition in all their work, enriching the community around them, and enacting positive change through intentional action. The Blue KC Gamechanger is selected from nominations collected by Blue KC and the Kansas City Current. Honorees are recognized during an on-field recognition during halftime at select Kansas City Current home matches.

Since 2017, C You In The Major Leagues has teamed up with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) to recognize the Blue KC Coaches with Character, intended to spotlight high school coaches who, through their leadership on and off the field, are helping to grow amateur sports in the Kansas City area, and making our community a better place to live, work and play.
Each Blue KC Coaches with Character honoree will be selected from nominations submitted by fans, with one honoree announced each month from April-September. See rules and regulations criteria
Honorees receive a VIP gift package that includes four (4) game tickets and a merchandise gift card from Blue KC and “C” You In The Major Leagues. Each honoree is also invited to meet Royals alumni at an event in September at Kauffman Stadium. Additionally, Blue KC will make a $2,500 donation to CYITML in honor of each selected coach.

RULES AND REGULATIONS: Any and all related expenses, including without limitation any and all federal, state, and/or local taxes shall be the sole responsibility of the nominator and/or Coaches with Character. The Blue KC Coaches with Character program is governed by the laws of the State of Missouri and is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. By submitting a nomination and by participation, nominator, Coaches with Character, and Coaches with Character’s guests, if any, agree to release and hold harmless Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City and its subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies, suppliers, partners, representatives, agents, successors, assigns, employees, officers, and directors from any liability, illness, injury, death, loss, litigation, claim or damage that may occur, directly or indirectly, whether caused by negligence or not, resulting from nomination or participation in the Blue KC Coaches with Character program.
A nominator can nominate only one Coach throughout the season. If a nominator submits multiple nominations, only the first submission will be considered.
Nominator must provide the contact info, including email address and telephone number of the nominee.
Nominator must provide a first-person narrative as to why the nominee should be selected (500 words or less).
Nominator must submit the nomination in English.
Nominator must agree to be included in a publicity release should his/her Coach be selected.
KEY FACTORS CONSIDERED IN SELECTION PROCESS:
The degree to which the Coach has been a leader for a cause that meets basic human needs or enriches the lives of others.
The degree to which the Coach has exhibited dedication and selflessness with his/her team.
The degree to which the Coach has made a special and significant impact on individuals, families or the high school sports community-at-large in greater Kansas City.
The degree to which the Coach has gone “above and beyond” to serve and inspire others.
The degree to which the nominator is able to convey the overall significance and impact of the Coach’s influence and leadership.
The degree to which the Coach has consistently demonstrated the ability to help his/her players become better players, teammates and people.
COACHES WITH CHARACTER ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
A Coach may be nominated several times by multiple people, but please remember quality over quantity.
Coach must live in the Kansas City Metro Area.
Coach must agree to be included in a publicity release.

Blue KC Sporting Samaritan Nomination
Each season Blue KC and Sporting Kansas City team up to recognize Blue KC Sporting Samaritans, which highlights students and teachers who make the KC community a better place to live, work and play!
Sporting Samaritans are recognized during pregame festivities at monthly Sporting KC home matches at Children’s Mercy Park. The Sporting Samaritan and their guests [three (3) total] will not only participate in the on-field experience but will also receive a behind-the-scenes VIP tour of the stadium, four (4) tickets to the match, food and beverage, a parking pass, and a customized jersey. Plus, the group gets to meet former Sporting KC legend Matt Besler and current player Kayden Pierre and have a photo taken on the field! Each nominator of the selected Sporting Samaritan will also receive two (2) tickets to the recognition match, one (1) parking pass and a $25 Sporting Style Gift Card.
